Naures Sager is an Iraqi-Swedish film producer, screenwriter and director. He completed a BA in Film Production at University West in 2008. Naures and his partner Michael Detlef are the founders of the production company The Uneven who produces LGBTQ+ films, with focus on people from the MENA region. Their work has been showcased at, e.g., the Arab World Institute and the Arab American National Museum.
Naures short films “1-1” and “Habib & The Thief” have been screened at numerous international festivals (e.g. Leeds International Film Festival and Flickerfest). Both films won Best Film at Pixel Skånes Film Festival and nominated for awards at, e.g., Stockholm International Film Festival and Nordisk Panorama. His short documentary “A Queer Bird in the Middle East” is currently touring the film festival circuit (e.g. Tempo Documentary Festival and Cleveland International Film Festival). He is developing his feature film “The Love Pill” which has been presented at industry markets during film festivals (Festival de Cannes and Berlinale), and won awards for the most intriguing project at The Norwegian International Film Festival and Göteborg Film Festival.
Naures is a member of the selection committee (2023-2025) for Best Short Film at The Guldbagge Awards. He has released his debut single “Mako Mithli”, an Iraqi Queer Anthem.
